MOESIA INFERIOR, Nicopolis ad Istrum. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ (25mm, 12.43 g, 12h). Aurelius Gallus, legatus consularis. Struck AD 201-203. Laureate head right / Emperor on horseback right, trampling enemy. H&J 8.18.34.7 (R5, same dies as illustrations). Fine, green patina, smoothed.


The reverse depicts Caracalla in the stance of spearing the enemy, but no lance is visible on the current coin or the two illustration in H&J. It must have been omitted from this die.
