ATTICA, Athens. Circa 454-404 BC. AR Drachm (15mm, 4.21 g, 4h). Helmeted head of Athena right / Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig behind; all within incuse square. Kroll 10; SNG Copenhagen 41–3. VF, toned, slight granularity. Wonderful early classical style.
As with the tetradrachms of this period, the drachms exhibit a wide array of styles. The present piece has a style that is nearly identical to that found on the previous issues (Starr Period V), which indicates that it is among the earliest to have been struck in the circa 454-404 BC period.
