EGYPT. 1st-2nd centuries AD. Serpentine amulet (34x26mm, 6.22 g). Female deity (Nemesis or Isis-Fortuna?), holding staff in right hand and drawing drapery with left, seated right, with wheel at side, before Anubis standing left, holding palm branch in left hand and staff in right; nonsensical magical inscription around figures: ΔΩΜΝΑΛΕΝΕVΛΕΛΛΜCΕΜΛΑΜ/ ΑXΑΛΜΑX/ ΑΜΑ/ REΙ/ ΜΙXΑΜΙ; in exergue, an inscription in four lines: ΝΙXΑΡΟΗΛΕC/ ΕΔΕΟΥΑΕΑ/ ΜΞΕΜΕC/ ΛΑΜΙ / Inscription in eleven lines: AKAANA/ OANAΛCΩ/ AKΦAMAXA/ MAPEIMIX/ AHAEAAMEE/ MEEIAAME/ VΛAMWAA/ MWNIXAΦ/ ΠΠAHΞM/ XAHIAW/ IAW. Magical letters on beveled edge. Cf. Thorvaldssen 1870a (for similar Anubis); cf. BM Intaglios and Cameos 1798 (for comparative with Isis and Anubis). Minor edge chip, otherwise intact and in excellent condition. A fantastic example.
