ARMENIA. Silver cross (60 x 45 mm) and two silver bracelets(Ø 65mm), one decorated with heart-shaped terminals (Circa 13th century AD), the other with lion head terminals (Circa 400-600 AD). Good condition with green patina. ($600)

From the Manuel Panossian Collection.

Said to be found at Mersin, Turkey in February 1992 with a hoard of 810 Hetoum-Zabel trams (AD 1226-70). Even though Armenia has a long Christian tradition, dating to the 3rd century AD, the prototypes for these bracelets are to be found in earlier times. The lion motif is found on bracelets from Persia in the 1st millennium BC and was also popular in the Greek and Roman world.
