THRACE, Apollonia Pontica. Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ (28mm, 10.79 g, 1h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Hermes(?) standing left within tetrastyle temple; patera in pediment. Varbanov 829 (same dies, R7). Near VF, green patina, light cleaning marks. Very rare.

The figure standing within the temple is difficult to identify due to striking weakness on both this coin and the specimen plated in Varbanov. Varbanov identifies the figure as the emperor, but he is possibly holding a caduceus(?) downwards in his right hand. As the figure is not bearded, an identification of Septimius Severus seems unlikely.
