Research Coins: Electronic Auction

326, Lot: 550. Estimate $100.
Sold for $140. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Fausta. Augusta, AD 324-326. Æ Follis (19mm, 3.24 g, 12h). Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. Struck AD 324-325. Draped bust right / Empress or Salus standing facing, head left, cradling two infants in her arms; PLG. RIC VII 235; LRBC 179; Lyon 193. EF, green and brown patina.

From the Demetrios Armounta Collection. Ex Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 147 (6 September 2006), lot 408.

Fausta’s bust appears to be cuirassed on this coin (see her right shoulder), which most likely is an error by the die engraver.
