Gold amulet case pendant. Late Roman-Byzantine, 5th-6th centuries AD. Amulet case with two loops for suspension. Case is decorated with beaded borders at ends. One end was initially opened to place religious amulets and subsequently sealed. Finials are simply stacked gold beads. Maximum length: 30mm. M. C. Ross, Catalogue of the Byzantine and Early Medieval Antiquities in the Dumbarton Oaks Collection: Jewelry, Enamels, and Art of the Migration Period (Washington: Dumbarton Oaks, 2005), 179. Intact.

A very nice example. Possibly part of a larger necklace which could have carried several similar cases. See the Burton Berry Collection 82a for full context.
