Nicephorus Libellisius. Late 11th-early 12th century. PB Seal (25mm, 7.90 g, 12h). Nimbate bust of St. Theodore facing, holding shield and spear / +KЄ R[O]/ΘЄI TωC/ ΔOVΛω NI[K]/HΦ ΛΙBЄΛΛ/HCIω in five lines. Unpublished in the consulted references. EF, beige patina.
It is uncertain if this seal identifies Nicephorus as a libellisios, an official with notarial duties, or if he is part of the Libellisius family that rose to prominence in the second half of the 11th century. Eight seal types are given to the family in the Prosopography of the Byzantine World database (http://pbw.kcl.ac.uk).
