333, Lot: 355. Estimate $150.
Sold for $110. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Gordian III. AD 238-244. Æ Sestertius (30mm, 19.92 g, 1h). Rome mint, 5th officina. 12th emission, AD 243. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Victory standing left, holding shield and palm frond; at feet to left, captive seated left. RIC IV 338a; Banti 106. VF, dark gray-brown patina, obverse struck multiple times.

An interesting laurel wreath tie on the obverse, as it has eight distinct ends, which would mean that it was struck at least four times, yet the bust itself has only one noticeable die shift.
