KINGS of BOSPOROS. Rheskouporis IV, with Gallienus. Circa AD 242/3-276/7. BI Stater (19mm, 7.68 g, 12h). Dated year 561 of the Bosporan Era (AD 264/5). Diademed and draped bust of Rheskouporis right; trident before / Laureate head of Gallienus right; I (mark of value) before. MacDonald 620/3. Near VF, porous surfaces.

From a European Collection of Coins of the Northern Black Sea.

From MacDonald (p. 112): “In 561 BE = AD 264/265, the denomination mark I (= 10) appeared on staters. The mark continued into the next year, when it was replaced by the denomination mark K (= 20), which continued to appear through BE 654 = 267/268. Many K denominations staters are struck over the earlier I denomination staters.”
