Lead prutot or tokens were for the most part struck under Alexander Jannaeus (Hendin 1155-56), although some extremely rare anonymous issues are also known (Hendin 1157-58). These issues may have served as a kind of token coinage, given as largess and redeemable for food or other gifts.
