Sold for $425. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Theodosius II. AD 402-450. Fourrée Solidus (22mm, 4.38 g, 7h). Imitating a Constantinople mint issue. Struck after AD 425. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield / The two emperors seated facing on double throne, each holding mappa and cruciform scepter; star above; CONOB. For prototype: RIC X 237; Depeyrot 79/1. VF, scratches, breaks in plating.

While the obverse legend is correct, the engraver clearly had some trouble with the official reverse legend (i.e., SALVS REI PVBLICAE).
