THESSALY, Pherai. Circa 460-440 BC. AR Drachm (19mm, 5.74 g, 7h). The hero Thessalos right, wearing petasos and holding a band in both his hands around the head of of a bull rushing to right / Φ E R A around from upper right, bridled horse cantering left; to upper right, lion’s head fountain left, from which water pours forth; all within incuse square. BCD Thessaly I 1301 (same dies). Near VF, minor roughness on obverse.

The BCD I specimen with which this coin shares its dies (an EF example) brought a hammer of ChF 17000 on an estimate of ChF 1750.
