THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid-late 2nd century BC. AR Stater (23mm, 6.43 g, 11h). Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; monogram to left / ΘEΣΣA ΛΩN, Athena Itonia right; monogram to inner right. BCD Thessaly II 855.1 (otherwise unpublished in the standard references). VF, toned, a few minor marks under the tone. Very rare. Likely re-engraved on a type containing a ‘O’ control mark to inner left on the reverse.

In the Triton sale, BCD noted that “...it is likely that this issue was the first of the late Thessalian League.”
