EASTERN EUROPE, Imitations of Philip II of Macedon. Circa 3rd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (25mm, 13.62 g, 12h). Laureate head of Zeus right; small labrys before / Youth, holding palm and reins, on horseback right; crescent below horse’s belly, Π below raised foreleg. Lanz –; CCCBM I – (but cf. no. 7 for reverse type and symbols); KMW –; cf. NAC AG 78, lot 167 (same obv. die). VF. Rare.

An interesting coin. In the NAC sale (26 May 2014), this type was attributed to the Odrysai based on the labrys on the obverse, which was a symbol associated with the tribe.
