Constantine I. AD 307/310-337. Æ Follis (19mm, 2.82 g, 7h). Constantinople mint, 6th officina. Struck AD 327. Laurel and rosette-diademed head right / CONSTANTINI-ANA DAFNE, Victory seated left on cippus, head right, holding palm frond in each hand; to left, bound captive seated left, head right, at base of trophy; ς//CONS. RIC VII –; Speck & Huston 32A (r5); LRBC -. VF, green patina, chipped on obverse. Very rare.
All known specimens of the Constantine I anepigraphic Dafne reverses have appeared since 1989, and thus are published in neither RIC nor in LRBC. Speck and Huston knew of just three specimens, including the sixth officina as here. However, since 1992 there have been a number of examples to come onto the market, although it is still by far the rarest and most desirable of all the Dafne varieties.
