SICILY, Syracuse. Second Democracy. 466-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (23.5mm, 17.34 g, 3h). Struck circa 460-450 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in both, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with wreath held in both hands; in exergue, ketos right / Head of Arethousa right, wearing pearl tainia, hoop earring, and pearl necklace; four dolphins and ΣYRAKOΣIO-N around. Boehringer Series XIVa, 483.5 (V257/R346) = Jameson 760 (this coin); HGC 2, 1311; SNG ANS 151; SNG Lloyd 1315; BMC 74; Bement 466; Kraay & Hirmer 83; McClean 2653; Pozzi 575; Rizzo pl.
