KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III. 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.25 gm). 'Amphipolis' mint. Struck under Philip III and Alexander IV, circa 322-317 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress /
BASILEWS A-LEXAND-R-OU, Zeus seated left, holding eagle and sceptre; cornucopiae to left. Price 108; Troxell, Macedon, Group G, 57; Müller 369. Superb EF. ($1500)
Troxell proposes that coins struck in the name of Alexander with the royal title during the joint reign of Philip III and Alexander IV are actually struck in the name of Alexander IV, not Alexander III (cf. ADM II pp. 96-98)
