Marcus Aurelius, with Lucius Verus. AD 161-180. Æ Medallion (42mm, 61.50 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck AD 161. IMP ANTONINVS AVG COS III IMP VERVS AVG COS II, bare head of Marcus Aurelius right, vis-à-vis bare head of Lucius Verus left / Faustina Junior (as Salus), seated left, holding patera in right hand and feeding serpent entwined about altar, and leaning left forearm on chair back. Gnecchi –, but cf. 3 and pl. 70, 2 (for obv.) and 27 and pl. 69, 2 (for rev.; Faustina Junior); MIR 18 –; cf. Banti 2 (for obv.); Triton IX, lot 1492 var. (Dioscuri rev.; same obv. die); otherwise unpublished. Good VF, even brown surfaces, minor smoothing in fields, holed in edge at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock in antiquity for mounting, possibly in a military signum. Unique.
