Third Known – Ex Zacos Collection

Justinian I. 527-565. Æ Follis (32mm, 13.36 g, 5h). Rome mint. Struck circa 547-565. D N IVSTINI–ΛNVS P P AV, helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding globus cruciger in right hand, shield over left shoulder / Large M; cross above, star below, R/O–M/A across field; all within wreath border. DOC (329); Tolstoi 313; BMC Vandals p. 112, 30; MIBE 221 (this coin cited); SB 299. Fine, brown surfaces, minor scratches. Extremely rare, possibly the third known and the only one in private hands (the others in the British Museum and the Hermitage [= Tolstoi]).
