ANGLO-GALLIC. Edward III. 1327-1377. Blanc au léopard sous couronne (23mm, 1.62 g, 6h). Contemporary imitation. + ЄD’ : LEX : Λ[...]Є/ + LVDO[...]ΛVDI (triple annulet stops), short cross pattée; lis in second quarter / + LVX : AQVI[LnI]Є (triple annulet stops), leopard passant left, small cross pattée below; crown above, cross below; all within tressure of twelve arches containing leaves. Elias, “Notes on Anglo-Gallic Coins,” in NumCirc XCVII.3 (April 1989), 2 var. (marks), otherwise unpublished. Fine, toned, crude, wavy. Extremely rare.

The example described by Elias, while bearing the same basic types and legends, differs in a few important ways. Elias’ example has a rosette below the leopard, a lis in the second quarter, and various secret marks in the legend. The present piece, however, bears a small cross pattée below the leopard and a leaf in the second quarter. Any secret marks are in the obscured parts of the legend.
