ARGOLIS, Argos. Circa 125-80 BC. Æ Dichalkon (15mm, 2.79 g, 1h). Thiode–, magistrate. Head of Hera right, wearing ornamented stephanos / Pillar fountain; helmet to left, heta to right, ΘIO-ΔE across lower field. BCD Peloponnesos –; HGC 5, 702; F. Imhoof-Blumer, “Zur Münzkunde und Palaeographie Boeotiens” in NZ 3 (1871), 30 corr. (magistrate [for corr. see F. Imhoof-Blumer, NZ 9 (1877), p. 57]). VF, brown patina, rough surfaces. Extremely rare with this magistrate, missing from BCD Collection.


According to Lesschorn, this issue of Argos is the only instance of this name on Greek coinage.
