Struck circa 1083-1086. + PILLEL(M R)EX, crowned facing bust, holding scepter; trefoil over right shoulder, pellet over left / + LEOFPINE ON PIII(?), cross pattée; letters of P Λ X S in annulets within quarters. SCBI –; BMC –; North 848; SCBC 1257. VF, toned, typical spots of flat strike.

From the Michael Joffre Collection.

The mint name on this piece would appear to most naturally be Winchester, but there is no moneyer by this name at that mint under William I. One possibility would be a poorly engraved signature for Bristol, where such a moneyer is known for William I.
