A lot of two hundred forty 4th-5th century Nummi, probably comprising a hoard. Emperors and types include: Arcadius. Victory and captive // Magnus Maximus. Campgate // Galla Placidia. Cross // Johannes. Victory and captive (2) // Theodosius II. Cross (14) // Monogram (2) // Valentinian III. Campgate (2) // Victory with wreaths // Two Victories, Rome mint // Theodosius II or Valentinian III. Cross (29) // Marcian. Cross (3) // Monogram, mints of Heraclea, Constantinople, Nicomedia, Cyzicus, Antioch (58) // Leo I. Monogram (6) // Verina (19) // Leo standing (10) // Lion (18) // Zeno. Monogram, two varieties, including one with POL,/font> mintmark (13) // Helmeted bust / Zeno standing // Zenonis. Monogram // Anastasius. Monogram, two varieties (41) // Imitative, Vandalic, etc. (14) // Plus two small Æ of Justinian I, intrusive. Several scarce rulers and types in the group, with a few unpublished varieties. Coins are essentially as found, with a uniform patchy green and brown patina. Two hundred forty (240) coins in lot. ($2000)

The hoard patina is consistant with an eastern origin, probably Roman Palestine. The rulers and types are also typical for the region. At first glance, the presence of two coins of an ephemeral western usurper, Johannes, may seem odd, but several examples of his small Æ have been recovered in archaeological excavations in Israel. A group worthy of further academic study.
