ACHAEA, Pellene. Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ Assarion (21mm, 4.73 g, 2h). Struck circa AD 198-205. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Dionysus standing left, holding filleted thyrsus and pouring cantharus. Cf. BCD Peloponnesos 607 (bust type, diassarion); NCP p. 92 (pl. S, XI); Dura –; cf. BMC 15 (bust type, diassarion). VF, red-brown patina, some deposits, die break on the reverse. Extremely rare, and apparently an unpublished variety.
