Second hand type, circa 985-991. +ÆDELRED REX ANGLO'X, diademed bust right, sceptre surmounted by cross pommée before / +LEOFRIC M-O LIMNA, Manus Dei extending down from clouds between A W; two pellets in field. North 768; SCBC 1146. Toned, good VF. A sharp strike with clear legends. Very rare mint. ($2000)

Six years after the introduction of the Manus Dei type, in 985, Aethelred made several adjustments to the Penny design by adding the royal sceptre to the obverse and by emphasizing that the Hand of Providence was coming from Heaven by the addition of clouds above the hand on the reverse.
