KINGS of THRACE, Macedonian. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Drachm (19mm, 4.26 g, 1h). Ephesos mint. Struck circa 294-287 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; tripod to inner left, ZI in exergue. Thompson 170 var. (monogram in exergue); Müller 335 var. (nothing in exergue); NFA Summer MBS (June 1986), lot 162. Good VF, lightly toned, spot of porosity on obverse. Very rare variety with ZI.
From the Nicholas Sicurella Collection.
There is an erasure in exergue on reverse, and the ZI mark is unusually off center, suggesting that this reverse die was previously marked with another control, perhaps the monogram of Thompson 170?
