PAPHLAGONIA, Sinope. Circa 230-200 BC. AR Tetradrachm (29mm, 16.84 g, 1h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, a above ΣI; below throne, monograms above and below strut. Price 1258–60 var. (monogram below strut, same obv. die as illustration of 1258); Newell,
Sinope 32–3 var. (same); HGC 7, 401 corr. (references). VF, toned, light marks, struck with worn obverse die. Unpublished variety.
From the collection of Dr. Will Gordon.
Although the monogram below the strut is mostly illegible, there is enough visible to determine that it definitely is not one of the three listed in Price.
