ARABIA, Southern. Qataban. Shahr Hilal Yuhan'im. Circa 50-25 BC. AR Hemidrachm (12.5mm, 1.95 g, 12h). Uncertain mint (ḤRB?). Bare male head right / Bearded head right;
ŠHR HLL ŠYM (king’s name in South Arabian) above, royal Qatabanian monogram to left, ‘oblong symbol’ (of ‘Anbi) to right. Unpublished. VF, toned. Extremely rare.
Until recently, no coins of this ruler were known (see CNG 99, lot 379 for the first to appear). Two coins of his bear the legend ḤRB below the head on the reverse, apparently referring to a mint whose name is unknown. Although these letters are not on the present coin, the style of this piece is consistent with those that do have them, so this piece is likely also a product of that mint.
