ARABIA, Southern. Saba'. 1st century AD. AR Unit (26mm, 5.37 g, 7h). Imitating Athens ‘New Style’ coinage. Laureate male head right; NT (in South Arabian) to left; all within wreath / Owl standing right, head facing, on amphora; monogram to left, curved symbol of Almaqah and monogram to right. Cf. CAF 1.16i (for type); cf. Huth 292–3 (for type); HGC 10, –. Near EF, lightly toned, minor double strike. Unusual crude style; possibly an imitative issue.

The letters on the obverse may indicate a denominational value of “one and a quarter” units, but this is quite unlikely, as the weight of this specimen is equal one unit pieces.
