Trefoil-Quadrilateral type, 1046-1048. +EDPER•D REX•, diademed bust left, with sceptre / +EDGAR ON BERCLE, voided cross with quadrilateral and trefoils. SCBI 19, 193; North 817; SCBC 1174. Good VF, warped flan. One of the rarest Anglo-Saxon mints. ($7500)

The town of Berkeley in Gloucestershire had an active mint only during the reigns of Edward the Confessor and William I. Of the four known specimens of Berkeley mint pennies, three are of Edward and one of William.
