352, Lot: 58. Estimate $150.
Sold for $90. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

MACEDON, Potidaia. Circa 450-432 BC. AR Diobol (9mm, 1.22 g, 3h). Rider on forepart of horse right; Π below head of horse (faintly visible) / Head of nymph right within incuse square. Alexander Period II, Group B, a.1; SNG ANS 697 corr. (note, see below); SNG Ashmolean 2369. Fine, toned, a bit rough. Very rare.

In SNG ANS, the attribution of this type to Potidaia is questioned, referring to the note on SNG Ashmolean 2370. However, that coin is of a different type, and the note actually says the present type is correctly attributed to Potidaia!
