THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid-late 1st century BC. AR Stater (23mm, 6.08 g, 12h). Petraios and Ptolemaios, magistrates. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath / ΘEΣΣA ΛΩN, Athena Itonia right; ΠETP-AIOV above; ΠTOΛEMAIO[Σ] in exergue. BCD Thessaly II 887.2 (same dies). Near EF.

Petraios, strategos of the League, son of Themistogenes of Gyrton, was an ardent supporter of Julius Caesar (Caes., BC III, 35), and was executed by Brutus in 44 BC (Cic., Phil. 13. 33).
