Marcus Aurelius. AD 161-180. Æ Dupondius (27mm, 14.12 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 166. Radiate head right / Victory standing facing, head right, holding palm frond and placing shield inscribed VIC PAR on palm tree. RIC III 933; MIR 18, 142-8/50 var. (obv. legend). Near VF, dark greenish-brown patina with a couple patches of red, smooth surfaces.
Ex John A. Seeger Collection (Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 172, 5 September 2007), lot 232 .
MIR states that RIC 933 is “unbelegt, falsche Averslegende,” but this coin obviously contradicts this statement.
