Magnus Maximus. AD 383-388. AR Siliqua (16mm, 1.50 g, 6h). Mediolanum (Milan) mint. Struck circa AD 387-388. Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Roma seated facing, head left, holding globe and reversed spear; MDPS. RIC IX 19a; RSC 20†c. VF, toned, some pits and deposits, clipped.
From the Dr. George Spradling Collection.
The even clipping of this siliqua – evident on late Roman silver found there – suggests that it continued to circulate in Britain after the Romans withdrew from that province in the early fifth century AD.
