Tiberius II Constantine. 578-582. Æ Follis – 40 Nummi (34mm, 17.36 g, 1h). Constantinople mint, 3rd officina. Dated RY 6 (579/80). Crowned facing bust, wearing consular robes and holding mappa and scepter surmounted by eagle supporting cross / Large M; A/N/N/O to left, cross above, ς (date) to right; CONΓ. DOC 13c; MIBE 25; SB 430. Near VF, dark green patina with earthen highlights/deposits.

An interesting coin where the original “m” on the reverse was altered to a large “M”, probably in antiquity for reasons unknown. It should be noted that the Constantinople mint used both the Lombardic “m” and the Latin “M” on the folles of Tiberius II.
