Barbarous Radiates (Early). Late 3rd century AD-4th century AD. Æ “Antoninianus” (13mm, 0.84 g, 6h). Imitating Tetricus I or II. Radiate head right / Forepart of a centaur left with rider(?); blundered legend around. Unpublished(?). VF, brown patina with touches of green and red. Interesting.

What appears to be a centaur with a rider to the left is most likely a standing figure of Sol to the left that the engraver “botched up.” Sol’s mantle (chlamys) has become the front of the rider. It is also possible that this is a rotated double strike that has the appearance of a “centaur with rider.” In either case, an interesting coin.
