ELECTROTYPE, MACEDON. Argilos. Circa 490-480 BC. “AR Tetradrachm” (25mm, 13.14 g). British Museum electrotype by Robert Ready or his sons. Pegasos galloping right; below, hunting dog running right; both on dotted ground line / Quadripartite incuse square. Head, Guide, –. For prototype, cf. BMC 6 (Uncertain city–electrotype made from this coin); cf. Leu 81 (2001), lot 161. As made, toned, attempted piercing on both sides same as original.


This electrotype copies one of the great rarities in the British Museum collection. The example in Leu 81 (16 May 2001) is only the second known example, and realized 27,000 CHF.
