ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Gaykhatu. AH 690-694 / AD 1291-1295. AV Dinar (23mm, 4.47 g, 5h). In Gaykhatu’s imperial name, Irenjin Turji. Uncertain mint. Uncertain date. Diler 231; Nyamaa 154 var. (mint name Tabriz in inner legend on obv.); Album 2158.1. VF, minor flan flaw.

Ex Gorny & Mosch 226 (16 October 2014), lot 5172.

Diler records this issue for Isfahan, Shiraz, Tabriz, and Yazd. Album notes that Tabriz is most common. This coin may not be from Tabriz, as the issues of that city typically cite the mint name vertically oriented to the right side of the inner inscription on the obverse (the Nyamaa piece also has the name of Tabriz within the inscription on the reverse). No mint name is visible here, but may be in the outer inscription on the obverse.
