INDIA, Gupta Empire. First Dynasty. Samudragupta. Circa AD 335-380. AV Dinar (21mm, 7.67 g, 12h). Aśvameda type (Variety b). Horse standing left on platform; to left, sacrificial altar with smoke arising from it; penon above horse’s head, upturned crescent above its rump;
si in Brahmi below horse / Goddess Vijaya standing left on circular mat, hoding
chāmara (fly-whisk) over shoulder, and
pāśa (lasso) or
paṭṭa (fillet); filleted
śakti (spear) to left. BKB 55-7; BMC Guptas –; Altekar pl. III, 6; Bayana 154. Near EF, hairline flan crack. Rare.
