LOMBARDS, Tuscany. Pseudo-Imperial coinage. AV Tremissis (15mm, 1.51 g, 4h). In the name of Byzantine emperor Maurice Tiberius? (582-602). SIVΛCISI-PPIV (Ps retrograde), diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Cross potent; highly blundered legend employing pseudo-letters around. See BMC Vandals p. 132, 40, pl. XIX, 6 for a similar crude portrait. VF, slightly wavy, a few marks.
From the collection of Dr. Lawrence A. Adams. Ex Classical Numismatic Auctions II (7 November 1987), lot 548.
A highly crude tremissis with the legends so blundered that we can only guess whose name it is in. This may be a local imitation of an official Lombard issue.
