PHOENICIA, Berytus. Macrinus. AD 217-218. Æ (29mm, 18.79 g, 12h). Laureate and cuirassed bust right, with gorgoneion on breastplate / Astarte, holding stylis in right hand and placing left foot on prow, standing facing within tetrastyle temple, being crowned by Nike on column to right; flanking Astarte, genii on shorter columns, holding globes; flanking temple stairway, winged genii, each holding trident, riding dolphins; shield in pediment; the following acroteria along roofline: two Nikai holding billowing veils and Poseidon abducting the nymph Beroea. Sawaya 1614-5 (D329/R660); SNG Copenhagen 112 (same dies). VF, brown patina. Great portrait.
