Aemilius Paullus at the Battle of Cannae (“Nobility of the Soul of Aemilius Paullus”): a tribune offers his horse to the wounded Aemillius Paullus, seated at right; dated year 536 (218 BC) in exergue / Varro Receives Thanks from a Grateful Senate (“Wisdom of the Senate”): senators at the head of a long procession reaching the gates of Rome, offer their thanks to Varro and his officers for their service to the Republic; dated year 538 (216 BC) in exergue.
