ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Mercia. Offa. 757-796. AR Penny (17mm, 1.25 g, 7h). Light coinage, portrait type. Caentwarabyrig (Canterbury) mint; (Ealred, moneyer). Struck circa 779-792/3. ΘFFA R• •ЄX, bare headed bust right / O F (Rx) m on the limbs of a Celtic cross with fleurs in angles, lozenge center containing salitre; trefoil-headed scepter in each angle. Chick 94b (this coin); SCBI –; BMC 30 (same rev. die); North 290; SCBC 905. Good VF, toned, light porosity.
