PRINCELY STATES, Janjira Island. Sidi Ibrahim Khan III. AH 1265-1297 / AD 1848-1879. AV Mohur (24mm, 11.22 g, 12h). Janjira mint. Dated AH 1283 (AD 1866). Persian legend citing coin struck by Sidi Ibrahim Khan III and AH date / Couplet citing Aurangzeb ‘Alamgir, mint of Janjira, and AH date 1209. KM 35; Friedberg 1201. EF, a couple of minor scratches, evidence of prior mounting. Extremely rare.

From the collection of Dr. Lawrence A. Adams, purchased from Stephen Album, May 1995.

The gold mohurs of Janjira were unknown siome years ago, when a few specimens, all showing signs of mounting, appeared on the market. They presumably all came from one necklace, undoubtedly the property of a member of the royal court.
