Late Period. 26th-30th Dynasty. 664-332 BC. Light green glazed faience amulet of Menqaryt (23x5mm). A forepart of a serpent. One of its uses was a charm to avoid snakebites, although it would also be placed on the deceased to protect them from being devoured in the Underworld (Book of the Dead xxxv). Such pieces are quite rare. Suspension loop at top.
From the Carl Devries Collection.
