HADRIAN. 117-138 AD. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.31 gm). Struck 134-138 AD. Laureate head right / Asia standing on prow left, holding hook and rudder. RIC II 301; RSC 189. Toned VF, light encrustation on reverse.

This coin commemorates Hadrian's extended visit to Asia Minor in 129-130 AD. Beginning in Athens in the summer of 129 AD, he crossed over to the Ionian coast and visited Ephesus. He then travelled around southern Asia Minor, stopping in Caria and Lycia, before he proceeded to Commagene and Antioch.
