ANTINOÜS, favorite of Hadrian. AE 29mm Medallion (10.93 gm). Modern fabrication. Head right / Magna Mater, cloak billowing about head, holding sceptre and torch, driving biga with lions right; artist name above. VF, tan patina worn on high points, porous. An interesting piece of "modern" classicizing.

This example combines two apparently unrelated themes into one medal. Ancient commemoratives of Antinoüs are well known, though none with a Magna Mater reverse. The creator of this piece has created this fantasy from another medallion, including the potential sculptor's name AIDIOTHC.
