Aelia Verina. Augusta, AD 457-484. Æ (21mm, 4.37 g, 6h). Constantinople mint, 5th officina. Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / SAVS (sic) REI PBVLICAE, Victory seated right, inscribing Christogram on shield, which is supported on a low column; CO[NE]. RIC X 655; LRBC 2253. VF, rough dark brown patina with traces of green. Rare.
Although the mintmark is that of the Constantinople, this issue is almost exclusively found in the Crimea, and was probably struck specifically for use in the important Black Sea port of Cherson.
