ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. 'Umara ibn Tamim. Viceregal Governor of Sijistan, AH 84-85 / AD . AR Drachm (31mm, 3.87 g, 5h). Arab-Sasanian type. SK (Sijistan) mint. Dated AH 84 (AD 704). Crowned Sasanian-style bust right; abzua (?), bismillah and rabbi in Arabic in outer margin / Fire altar with ribbons and attendants; star and crescent flanking flames; date to left; mint to right. Cf. SICA I, p. 34; Walker, Arab-Sasanian –; cf. Album C40 (for type); ICV 57 var. (issue without additional obv. legend). Good VF, areas of toning. Apparently unique variety of an extremely rare issue.
